We’ve just returned from a week at Sorcerers Safari Magic Camp where everyone unanimously agrees – WE HAD THE BEST SUMMER EVER!

While up there, we created a magic camp lip dub video which showcases our beautiful campgrounds, all the fantastic campers and the awesome support staff we had up at camp this year. For those that don’t know, a magic camp lip dub is a type of video that combines lip synching, audio dubbing and magic to make a rockin’ music video.

Take a few minutes to watch I’ve got the Magic in me!:

Special thanks goes to Mark Baluk for filming this (with direction from Trevor Watters) in a single unedited shot at the Sorcerers Safari Magic camp 2011 on Camp White Pine grounds. Every single camper from the 2011 summer session appears in this clip. This took a half-day to choreograph, block, shoot and edit. We had an amazing time putting this together for your viewing pleasure. Again, it was the best summer ever!

Dear Parents and Campers,

We are really looking forward to camp this year. Tuesday August 30th to Sunday September 4th is going to be very exciting and filled with magical activities.

The bus to and from camp is at the same spot as last year. Please take down the following information:

Location: Toronto French School
Address : 306 Lawrence Avenue East, Bayview & Lawrence
Drop off: Tuesday August 30th before 10:00am
Pick up : Sunday September 4th at approximately 3:30pm

It would be a good idea for you and your child to look over our “How to Prepare for Camp” on the registration section of our web site.

You should find this quite helpful. Given the relatively short duration of our camp, there will be no visitors day or mail. However, should a parent need to contact a camper in the event of an emergency, Camp White Pine’s phone number is 705-457-2131 (most likely you will have to leave a message that CWP staff will get to us sometime that day). During the day of departure or on the day of return you can also reach us on our cell phones: Magic Mike 416-319-1442 or Jen Segal 416-844-5363. We will also be checking our Toronto office line (416-322-1442) occasionally for messages on and off during the week. The campers are discouraged from using the pay phones once they are up at camp. We also ask that campers leave their cell phones at home.

Travel arrangements and flight information
For all families that are making air travel arrangements to and from Toronto, we would appreciate having all the travel details sent to us ASAP. It is important that the flights arrive at Pearson Airport (YYZ) on Tuesday August 30th before 9:00 a.m. The bus will be picking everyone up around 9:45 to take him or her to Camp White Pine. It takes a great deal of coordination on our part to make sure all planes are met on time by our staff. Please make sure that you speak with me ahead of time so I can go over the details regarding the person meeting and dropping off your children at the airport. Departure from Pearson Airport on Sunday September 4th should not be before 5:00 p.m.

Campers being dropped off and/or picked up at camp
All families that will be dropping and picking their children up directly at the camp (not taking the bus) need to notify us of this immediately. We only have a limited amount of seats on the bus, so unfortunately we will not be able to facilitate last minute changes to take the bus. There is a map with directions on our website for your convenience: http://sorcererssafari.ca/about-camp-white-pine/driving-directions-to-camp-white-pine/

We ask that the campers being dropped off at camp arrive no earlier than 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30th. When you pull into the grounds you will see the canoes on the right, please pull your car in there. There will be staff waiting to greet you. You can leave your children and their bags with our staff and we will take care of everything from there. Cars will not be allowed on the grounds after 1:00 p.m. to allow for the bus arrival. Your campers will have lunch on site with everyone else on that day, but it won’t be until 1:30ish, so please make sure they don’t arrive hungry, as that is a bit of a wait.

In order for us to stay on schedule during the last day of camp, pick-up time at the camp is 11:00 a.m. on Sunday September 4th. Your children will be waiting at the same spot where you dropped them off, unless it is raining. If that is the case drive your car directly to the mess hall. Staff will be waiting there to assist you and your children. It is imperative that you are on time for the pick up. The camp staff must vacate immediately after the campers all leave, as Camp White Pine has another group coming in right after us. The campers will not be fed lunch on this day.

Campers taking bus to and/or from camp
The bus is scheduled for camper pick up at Toronto French School, 306 Lawrence Avenue East, north-west corner of Bayview and Lawrence on Tuesday August 30th to take the campers to Camp White Pine. Please make sure you are there before 10:00 a.m. in order for our staff to do a proper head count. It is a long bus trip so we encourage you to pack a snack for the bus drive up north. Sandwiches, cookies, drinking boxes, etc… (Nothing with peanuts due to some severe food allergies, please). Lunch will be provided for your campers shortly after arrival at Camp White Pine.

The bus will return to at Toronto French School, 306 Lawrence Avenue East, corner of Bayview and Lawrence to drop off the campers at approximately 3:30pm on Sunday September 4th. There is a bag lunch provided for the campers on the bus trip home. Please keep in mind that 3:30 is not a definite time as traffic can really slow us down, but please arrive before then to help eliminate camper and staff anxiety.

Food and candy policy
Campers are not allowed to bring food, candy or drinks to camp. This policy will be strictly enforced, to help ensure the safety and well being of others. We have quite a few campers with severe food allergies. They cannot be in the same room as the food that they are allergic to. Food can also attract animals into the cabins, so please make sure that you do not send food at all.

This is going to be very exciting. We have been looking forward to this week all year. If you have questions that haven’t been covered here, please feel free to contact us anytime.

Magically, Mike and Jen

Sorcerers Safari Magic Camp is now in its fifteenth year of operations. At the Sorcerers Safari magic camp, campers learn magic while having fun, two themes that are easy to combine. We endeavour to help campers develop some new magic skills and polish old ones.

Although we supply all the materials for the planned workshops, we encourage campers to bring magic items they have special interest in working on. Many of our campers return year after year…they have so much fun they just keep coming back. Campers often develop special relationships with each other, and they keep in touch by attending events that are organized or sponsored by Sorcerer Safari.

Our magic camp is always located in a safe and friendly environment, far away from the distractions of everyday life. We use Camp White Pine (same camp location as in the movie Meatballs).

You can feel comfortable and secure each time you send your child to the Sorcerers Safari Camp.

Counselors are imaginative, committed, caring and fun to be with. All staff are 19 or older and are selected through an intensive interview and reference-checking process for their experience and ability to work with children. Staff wear an SSS t-shirt to be easily recognized and all hold current CPR certification.

We are constantly looking for ways to improve our program because we know that it takes innovation, commitment, and hard work to remain the premier magic camp in Canada.

Please familiarize yourself with the all the choices offered for our magic camp electives.

Eric Jones Special Guest at Sorcerers Safari Magic Camp this Summer

SILL ACCEPTING 2011 CAMPER REGISTRATIONS!

Eric Jones travels all the way from North Carolina to the Sorcerers Safari Summer Magic Camp in Ontario, Canada. (Eric comes for the kids, but stays for the magic; “Love it,” say Sorcerers Safari staffers.)

Toronto, Ontario. – July 3rd, 2011 EST - Amidst rampant magic forum speculation, Sorcerers Safari Summer Magic Camp announced it is bringing in the hip American coin virtuoso as the special guest at Magic Camp this summer.

With several best selling DVDs, a cover of SAM’s magazine and a ton of great unpublished ideas – Eric Jones has lots to offer the campers. Eric Jones is famous for his interviews on REEL MAGIC, he’s also known for teaching beginner coin handlings on METAL and AUDIO DVDs which have received international acclaim. Now imagine what it would be like to spend a camp session with this guy?!?

The inspiration for asking Eric Jones to spend time at magic camp, recalled Mike Segal, owner of Sorcerers Safari, “He simply loves magic and would be a perfect fit for camp and the kids,” Segal said. “And there is no better way to spend time immersed in the art of magic than with one of your heroes. Who doesn’t love Eric Jones? He’s awesome!”

The idea of having online personalities as special guests at camp is always one of the hot debates at the annual executive staff meetings. (Sorcerers Safari Summer Magic Camp chooses only the best of the best to come up as special guest.) After unanimously agreeing Eric Jones was a perfect fit, we asked and he gladly accepted.

“Eric Jones is going to have a great time up here, and so are all the campers and staff. Imagine all of the experiences he can recount about performing on the MASTERS OF MAGIC stage in Italy, filming world-wide acclaimed videos with Ellusionist, launching EricJonesMagic.com and the rest of all the legendary things he’s done,” said Sorcerers Safari twelve year veteran, Lee Asher. “This is going to be our fifteenth year in operation, and I can’t remember a time when everyone was so excited about a special guest like Eric Jones.”

Asher adds, “I met Eric Jones very early in his career and it’s now nice to see them blossom into a powerful, artistic force. Having him at camp is a win-win for everyone. We welcome him to our camp family with open arms. Having Eric is like having a long-lost brother come up for the week. I love it!”

Unlike other special guest declarations, when Eric Jones’ name was announced, the room broke into loud applause and cheers. It’s going to be the best year of camp, ever!

This is huge! I’m looking forward to being your Guest of Honor at this years Safari. Words can’t express how thrilled I am to work with each of you. You know, it isn’t every day that I get to directly interact with the future of magic. -Eric Jones

According to Mike Segal, Sorcerers Safari is growing exponentially with a high rate of return campers and return staff. With luck, Eric Jones will love camp so much, he too, will return repeatedly.

Are you ages 8-21 or know someone who is and would benefit from a week at Sorcerers Safari? Click here to learn more about attending Sorcerers Safari Magic Camp with Eric Jones this year.
* 20% off Entire Shop for EVERYBODY!!! Buy a lot or a little!!!

Dear Magic Friends,

THIS IS IT. As many of you have heard by now Browser’s Den will be moving to a brand new location in August (right before Magic Camp).

We have been at our current Bathurst & Eglinton location for 26 of our 36 years in business. So many wonderful memories and stories and nice times have occurred. We have had the pleasure to meet and serve so many of you wonderful customers at this location that we want to do something very special to remember our time here.

FOR EVERY CAMPER (and family) WHO COMES TO THE SHOP on Sunday, July 17 we have had made for us a beautiful and creative poster for everyone to sign and write a message.

Afterwards, this special poster will be professionally framed and then
PERMANENTLY hung in a very prominent place at our new shop FOREVER! This way you will be part of Browser’s Den history. After all, without your support there would be no Browser’s Den.

We want any Sorcerers Safari camper who attends to bring a camera/cell phone and take a photo of themselves outside the shop and inside the shop with Jeff, Shawna & Jeff.

And then email us the photo. We will take all photos and put together a
Photo Album that will also be permanently in the new shop and permanently on our website.

We are very excited about the new magic shop. But this will also be a very emotional day for all of us as we all have such wonderful memories here.

Memories that include our dear founder Len Cooper, countless lectures,
countless auctions, anniversary parties, meeting other magicians at the card table, the wonderful demonstrator and person John Cardella, and so many more!

All of us really hope that you will fit this day into your schedule and come to the shop for one final goodbye.

Magical Hugs,
Jeff Pinsky, Shawna & Jeff
